Veterinary oncologists and medical researchers studying pet animal cancer are perhaps the single most untapped source of relevant clinical data in the fight against cancer in people. Dogs, cats and humans are the only species to get spontaneously occurring cancer in the millions of cases per year. Unlike laboratory based mouse and rat studies, these comparative oncology clinical trials are conducted by the pet’s own veterinarian, an emphasis is placed on protocols that are designed to maximize both the quantity and quality of the pet’s life, and meaningful results for both pets and people can be obtained in a one to two year period.

Tony, then Manager of the Oakland A’s came across a stray during a game between Oakland Athletics and the New York Yankees. Tony captured the stray, and looked to place it in a local shelter, but found that there was not a single no-kill shelter in the East Bay region of the San Francisco Bay Area. That event inspired Tony and his wife Elaine to create the ARF to find homes for abandoned animals and help control pet overpopulation through spaying & neutering programs.

Rated as one of the best and most productive charities in the fight against cancer and so it works both ways: find a cure through humans and we may find a cure for our pets.
Stand Up To Cancer’s (SU2C) mission is to raise funds to accelerate the pace of groundbreaking translational research that can get new therapies to patients quickly and save lives now.SU2C brings together the best and the brightest researchers and mandates collaboration among the cancer community. By galvanizing the entertainment industry, SU2C has set out to generate awareness, educate the public on cancer prevention and help more people diagnosed with cancer become long-term survivors.
