This will allows us to facilitate the most efficient plan for your pet. Please send records to info@marqueenanimalclinic.com.

As a courtesy to our veterinarians and other patients who may be waiting to make an appointment, please let us know at least 24 hours prior to your visit if you need to reschedule. Simply call us at 916-757-6600.

If your pet is having surgery, ultrasound, or an endoscopic procedure, please don’t feed them after midnight or let them drink anything after 6:00 a.m. the morning of their procedure. The day of your appointment:

Please bring any medications (prescription and over-the-counter) that your pet is currently taking. At your appointment:

Your pet will be weighed on arrival and a physical exam performed. Any medical history, lab work, or imaging results sent from your primary care veterinarian will be reviewed. Following an examination, the specialist will discuss their findings with you and present treatment options.

Together, you’ll agree on a treatment plan that works best for you and your pet. We’ll provide a cost estimate for your review and authorization at this time.

We know that you love your pet and want them to feel safe and loved. Please trust we will do all that we can to make your pet comfortable and treat your pet as our own. We cannot be responsible for personal belongings such as carriers, beds, leashes, or any personal items for your pet. If your pet is admitted, please take these items with you.

In the heart of emergency care, our veterinary technician conducts a swift triage evaluation upon your arrival. Patients in unstable conditions receive immediate attention from a veterinarian. For stable pets, our patient-care staff collects information about your pet’s condition before consulting with the emergency veterinarian.

After a thorough examination, you’ll receive recommendations for diagnostic tests, treatment options, and their respective costs. Together, we’ll establish the best course of action, keeping you involved at every step.

After emergency care:

Once your pet has received the necessary care, the emergency veterinarian will present recommendations for the next steps:
  1. Your pet can return home with discharge instructions for ongoing care.
  2. If intensive monitoring is required, your pet may remain in our hospital for 24-hour supervision and intensive care.
  3. Transition of care back to your primary veterinarian is an option, with your pet’s well-being remaining our priority.
Rest assured, we ensure the continuity of care by sharing a summary of your pet’s medical record with your primary care veterinarian. If you need further assistance, our team will gladly provide guidance and answer any questions.

Frequently Asked Questions (and Answers!)

A referral is never needed for emergency care. A referral is always appreciated, but not required, to see our internal medicine, surgery, and cardiology specialists. Although a referral is not necessary to see oncology, a cancer diagnosis is, and we do encourage you to seek the expertise of your family veterinarian to obtain a diagnosis as a first step. Diagnostic imaging is available through our specialty and emergency services, or as a referral from your primary care veterinarian.

Primary care veterinarians generally complete undergraduate school followed by four years of veterinary school. A board-certified specialist goes beyond that to complete additional training that includes an internship and a two- to four-year residency in their chosen specialty. Then they must pass a rigorous board examination in their field. Many veterinary specialty organizations also require individuals to complete a unique research project and publish those findings in a peer-reviewed journal before they can be considered for board examination. Once all these requirements are met, the veterinarian is awarded “Diplomate” status by the certifying organization in his or her specialty and can be called a ‘specialist’.

Definitely! We believe in transparency and will discuss all treatment options and their related costs with you in advance of any treatment being provided to your pet. Life-saving measures upon arrival to stabilize a patient may begin immediately if necessary.

We accept cash, debit cards, and all major credit cards (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover). We also accept Scratch and CareCredit which offer financing plans for veterinary services. At this time, we do not accept checks or provide in-house financing.

An initial payment is due at the time of treatment or admission based on the estimate provided by our medical team. For hospitalized patients we will keep you updated and may require additional payments as we continue care. Any remaining balance will be due at the time your pet is discharge.

At MarQueen, we consider your primary care veterinarian to be an integral member of your pet’s care team. We keep them informed, in writing, of any diagnostic or treatment services we deliver so everyone is on the same page about your pet’s health status.

We also work with your primary veterinarian before and after your pet has been seen by our team. Once your primary care veterinarian is added to your pet’s record, your veterinarian is notified anytime your pet is checked in or out. They can go through our referring veterinary portal and have access to updated blood work and medical records as they become available. We are also happy to provide the medical team updates on patients over the phone. We often get on the phone with primary care veterinarians to consult on challenging cases.

Yes! This not only reassures you that your pet is doing well but also enables us to update you on their progress. Plus, you know your pet best and can help us see subtle changes in their condition. What’s more, you’re often the best person to encourage your pet to eat or get up and walk around. There are no set visitation hours; simply speak to a member of your pet’s medical team to determine a time that works for everyone.
